Voices of Moderation

BRUXELLES – Yesterday began “Voices of Moderation”, a workshop that brings together thirty-five representatives of twenty-eight associations of civil society from seventeen different countries: Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Netherlands, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Albania, Croatia, Romania, Kosovo and Germany.

This workshop represents a very important stage in the Pax Christi International’s history of the Catholic community in Central and Easter Europe.

Organized by Pax Christi InternationalKIK (Klub Inteligencji Katolickiej) and Laboratorium Więź, and Stichting Communicantes, the meeting is taking place in Warsaw. The purpose is to dialogue with each other and debate on issues of common concern like human dignity, common good, the relationship between Church and society and the role that the Catholic movement must have in the civil society, even in the face of the new challenges imposed by today’s society and its rapid intrinsic changes.

How is the church support for civil society action inside and outside the church context? How to contribute to and inspire civil society? What space is there for cooperation? What challenges lie ahead?

These are some of the questions that the workshop participants will discuss, thinking about the future and trying to overcome the challenges that their regions presents. Building bridges rather than walls.
