Civil society’s right to participation in virtual meetings on COVID-19 pandemic

Pax Christi International co-signed a letter addressed to Ambassador Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger, President of the United  Nations Human Rights Council and to Ms Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. In many communities and regions of the world people do not have Internet access or they must leave their homes in order to reach an internet spot which is impossible to do in these times of confinement. Moreover, in many places the internet connection is scarce or unstable. Whilst this may allow for basic use such as sending and receiving emails, it is impossible to follow a meeting for an extended period of time.  Accessibility to virtual spaces can also be hindered by language barriers and time-zone differences.
