The presidents of Pax Christi International have written to His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung BO, Archbishop of Yangon, expressing solidarity and continuing prayers for the people of Myanmar. As the coup continues, violence, including capital punishment, seems endless.

Brussels, 29 July 2022
Your Eminence,
Pax Christi International, the Catholic movement for peace and nonviolence present in most continents, including Asia, is very concerned and deeply troubled about the disturbing news coming from Myanmar and the hardships that your society is currently experiencing, described as a “never-ending nightmare”.
We know that your people are being mercilessly repressed without any respect for basic human rights.
On 8 May 2022, Pax Christi Asia Pacific hosted an online prayer service with and for the people of Myanmar. It was a prayerful and moving event.
Pax Christi International expresses its deepest support and stands in solidarity with you and the people of Myanmar in this untold suffering and we assure you of our union in prayer.
May our God of compassion and of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles to be with each one of you during these painful and difficult times. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
On behalf of the international Board of Pax Christi International
In peace and solidarity,
Bishop Em Marc Stenger (France)
Sr Teresia Wamuyu Wachira IBVM (Kenya)
