Such interests\, however\, must never be allowed to take precedence over human rights and human dignity. \nIn the Asia Pacific region\, this reflection is particularly timely. Growing geopolitical tensions\, strategic competition between major powers\, rising military expenditure\, and deep social and economic inequalities continue to affect the lives of millions of people. Cedric Pakash\, SJ\, Ahmedabad\, India. A Jesuit with studies in Economics and Politics\, he founded ‘Prashant’\, the Jesuit centre for human rights\, justice and peace. As a visiting lecturer\, speaker and trainer\, he advocates for the excluded and exploited. The reality of the Muslims in Gujarat troubles him. \nThe Leadership of Women in Shaping a Civilisation of Love by Sr. Dr. Susan Connelly\, SOSJ\, Sydney\, Australia. Now in a Josephite leadership position\, Susan worked for decades in Timor -Leste and is much concerned about the West Papuans. Involved with justice through articles and talks\, her PhD applied René Girard’s thought to Australia’s relationship to Timor. \nInterpreting Pope Leo’s Civilisation of Love through a Pacific lens by Rev. James Bhagwan\, Suva\, Fiji. As General Secretary\, Pacific Conference of Churches\, he works with Oceania’s 35 member churches and 11 national councils of churches.
