SUMMARY:Sudan: Possible Paths to Peace?
DESCRIPTION:On February 24th\, 2026 at 5 pm Brussels time (6:00 PM Khartoum – 11:00 AM New York – 11:00 AM Bogotà)\, Pax Christi International\, in co-sponsorship with The Journal of Social Encounters\, invites you to a timely and urgent conversation: “Sudan: Possible Paths to Peace?”. Over the past years\, Sudan has endured one of the most severe humanitarian and political crises in the world\, its suffering too often overlooked by the global community even as displacement\, human rights violations and violence continue to escalate.  \nIn the spirit of solidarity and committed to human dignity and nonviolence\, Pax Christi International has consistently called for inclusive peace processes\, protection of civilians and renewed commitment to justice for the people of Sudan.  \nThis webinar builds on that work. Bringing together leading analysts\, advocates and peacebuilders\, we will reflect on the current situation\, explore the vital role of nonviolent action and civic engagement\, and examine the international dynamics that continue to shape the conflict’s trajectory.  \nWe are grateful for your participation and trust that this conversation will deepen our collective understanding and strengthen our shared efforts toward a just and lasting peace in Sudan. \nPax Christi International continues its work of raising awareness and sharing information on Sudan and the country’s difficult situation. In 2025\, we organised the Sudan Speaks webinar series\, issued a statement supporting the situation of women in Sudan and took part\, on 11 April\, in the World Day of Prayer for Peace in Sudan. \nClick here to register to the webinar\n\nAgenda\nModerator: Mawa Abdelbagi Osman Mohamed\, Pax Christi International Sudan Working Group \n 5′: Welcoming and Introduction\nSpeaker: Martha Inés Romero\, Pax Christi International Secretary General \n 15′: “Overview on Sudan’s current situation” \n Speaker: Gabriel Mad\, Independent Researcher in Politics and International Relations \n 15′: “Nonviolence and the Path to Peace in Sudan”\nSpeakers: Marija Marovic\, Executive Director of Gisa Group\, and Zahra Hayder\, Founder and Ececutive Director of Waei Organization \n 15′: “Illegal Arms and Resource Flows into Sudan and How to Stop Them”\n Speaker: John Prendergast\, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption activist    \n 20′: Q&A\nModerator: Giulia Bordin\, Pax Christi International Advocacy Officer \n 5′: Closing Remarks\nSpeaker: Martha Inés Romero\, Pax Christi International Secretary General \n 3′: Thank you and campaign announcement  \n\nSpeakers\n Gabriel Mad is an independent researcher in politics and international relations. SUMMARY:Peace Light of Bethlehem
DESCRIPTION:Every year a light comes from Bethlehem. \nBefore Christmas\, the Scout movement takes a flame from the Eternal Flame from the Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. They carry it into the world as a sign for peace. Even in these years\, when the longing and hope for a lasting peace in the Holy Land is so urgent. The light brings peace to us and is a sign of our willingness to be channels of peace\, by our words and actions. \nIn Brussels we receive the light\, brought to us by the scouts and guides\, on Wednesday 10. December\, 18.30h at the Parc Léopold (in front of the House of European History\, near Place Jean Rey). From there we accompany the light to the Chapel for Europe\, where we will share a moment of reflection and prayer for peace in the Holy Land and worldwide. The peace light will then be distributed to all who want to carry it on to their parishes\, communities\, houses and so on. \nPlease\, bring along a lantern to take the light back home. \nThe welcoming of the light is organised by Les Scouts\, the Chapel for Europe\, Pax Christi International and CIDSE.

In the Asia-Pacific region too\, despite the legacy of ahimsa and other peace traditions\, many continue to suffer the consequences of conflict. \n“In the midst of the many challenges facing our world today – including widespread armed conflict\, deep divisions among peoples\, and the struggles of forced migration – efforts to promote Nonviolence are more necessary than ever.” (Pope Leo XIV) \nThe Presenters\n🔹 Nicholas Paz – The relevance of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative in our times | Slides\n🔹 Virginia Saldanha – Incorporating Women in peacemaking | Slides\n🔹 Ruki Fernando – Recent Violence in the Politics of Sri Lanka \n \nWatch the full recording here

SUMMARY:Webinar Series: Sudan Speaks
DESCRIPTION:About the Series\nSudan is facing one of the most serious humanitarian and political crises in its history\, yet the scale of this suffering has been largely overlooked by the international community. Since April 2023\, an intense conflict between rival factions has caused immense displacement\, food insecurity\, and human rights violations. Across the country\, civilians\, youth leaders\, and civil society organisations continue to advocate for a just and sustainable peace under extremely difficult circumstances. \nFollowing the World Day of Prayer for Peace in Sudan held on 11 April 2025\, Pax Christi International launched a new cycle of webinars under the banner “Sudan Speaks: Voices from a Forgotten Crisis and Hopes for Peace”. \n🔹 Webinar 1 “Sudan Speak: Introduction”\, June 28th 2025\n🔹 Webinar 2 “Women in Sudan”\, July 29th\, 2025\, 4 pm CEST \n🔹 Webinar 3: “Humanitarian Situation in Sudan”\, September 22nd\, 2025\, 4 pm CEST – Register here \nRead more about the Series

SUMMARY:Online Launch of the Catholic Joint Statement on Climate and Peace
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, 8 September 2025\, Caritas Internationalis\, CIDSE and Pax Christi International\, supported by SCIAF\, hosted a special webinar to launch a significant joint statement entitled ‘Pilgrims of Hope for a Just and Peaceful World‘. \nThe webinar was held during the Jubilee Year of Hope and the Season of Creation\, a time when the Church renewed its call to care for our common home. \nA call for Peace and Climate Justice\nAt the heart of the statement lies a simple yet urgent truth: \n“There can be no true peace without climate justice\, and no climate justice without peace.” \nThe statement warned that ecological collapse\, violent conflict\, and persistent poverty were not separate problems\, but rather ‘entangled threads of a shared global threat’. It challenged the logic of profit-driven systems\, such as those in the fossil fuel\, arms\, and financial industries\, which thrived on “instability\, inequality\, relentless extraction and oligarchic cronyism”. \nYet it also pointed to a path forward: “The moral imperative was clear but the tools were within reach.” Drawing on Catholic Social Teaching\, the statement called for solidarity\, debt justice\, an end to fossil fuel subsidies\, reduced military spending\, and inclusive decision-making that empowered vulnerable and frontline communities. \nThe launch brought together voices from across the Church and beyond. As the statement reminded us\, ‘Nonviolence\, both as a method and a style\, provided the foundation for how we confronted the challenges of our time’. Communities that resisted deforestation\, extractive industries\, and war showed that pursuing peace and caring for the environment went hand in hand. \nA step toward COP30\nThe event was also a milestone on the Catholic journey toward COP30 in Belém\, Brazil\, offering a platform to witness the moral leadership and grassroots commitment needed for global climate and peace action. \nThe statement\nBelow is the full statement in English\, French and Spanish: \n\n\nEN: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vW9i9G5NAd8rYsWlGkkQeClx3jpuYWsL/view?usp=sharing\n\n\nFR: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JpYI8-pSirjSqHSl7ZSNThKpJOffPawm/view?usp=sharing\n\n\nES: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ApDlcDKJvSlirZ1nwkrMs6tQbLsHqF3s/view?usp=sharing\n\n\nThe full recording of the event on YouTube is available here: https://youtu.be/FjtyuT5SJoo \n  \nCover photo: Ethiopian farmers. SUMMARY:From Pain to Hope: Voices of Reconciliation in Israel and Palestine
DESCRIPTION:On June 5\, 2025\, we hosted an event at the Chapel for Europe entitled From Pain to Hope: Voices of Reconciliation in Israel and Palestine with Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan\, a Palestinian and an Israeli father\, both bereaved\, both members of The Parents Circle – Families Forum\, a joint Israeli-Palestinian organisation of families who have lost loved ones to the conflict. Through their stories\, they challenge conventional narratives and demonstrate that even in loss\, it is possible to choose understanding over hatred. \nBassam and Rami’s presentation was followed by an open and engaging discussion with participants\, reflecting the power of dialogue even in the most painful circumstances. The event also included a moving reflection and heartfelt blessing from Sister Wamuyu Teresia Wachira\, co-president of Pax Christi International. She offered spiritual encouragement\, reminding us to stay rooted in compassion and solidarity\, and blessed Bassam and Rami with strength and support in their courageous work. In a moment of unity\, we joined hands\, connecting to the warmth of our hearts and to one another in a spirit of peace. \nThe event was organised by Pax Christi International and AIM – Actions In the Mediterranean. \nWe extend our warmest thanks to everyone who joined us and a special thank you to the Chapel for Europe for welcoming us in such a thoughtful and inspiring space.\nYou can watch the full recording here.

SUMMARY:Global Day of Action to Close Bases
DESCRIPTION:On 23 February 2025\, the “Global Day of Action to Close Bases” will take place. In the year of the Jubilee\, as Pope Francis appealed to redirect military industry funds to combat world hunger\, Pax Christi International and some of its national sections will join in this global manifestation. More information to come! \nThe thousands of military bases\, both foreign and domestic\, around the world are a critical piece of the war machine. Closing bases is a necessary step to shift the global security paradigm back towards nonviolent conflict transformation and justice as the only lasting foundation to peace. \n“With war\, a senseless and inconclusive venture\, no one emerges a winner; everyone ends up defeated\, because war\, right from the beginning\, is already a defeat\, always.” \n– Pope Francis\, June 2024\, as reported by Vatican News \n“In the life of the Church\, just war theories are a secondary element in Catholic teaching; the first is that we should not engage in warfare at all.” \n– Card. Robert W. McElroy\, September 2024\, as reported by Vatican News \n\nVisit WorldBeyondWar for more information about the Global Day of Action\, and to find resources for organising your own action. All actions will be nonviolent actions that will not cause physical harm to people. Example action types include: \n\nRallies and vigils at military bases\nDemonstrations at decision-makers’ offices\, such as at embassies and Parliament buildings\, to advocate for policy change to prevent\, close\, and convert bases\nFlyering workers at the entrance gates as they drive in and out of the base\nEducational events\, such as teach-ins about the impacts of military bases in your area\nCelebratory events at base sites that have been prevented\, closed\, or converted\n…

This is a call to the global Church and all people of goodwill to answer the “cries of the earth and the cries of the poor.” We will discuss how to stand together against violence\, support legal protections\, and advocate for indigenous rights and environmental justice.\n\nWomen’s Leadership: New Pathways in Ministry\nFive years after the Amazon Synod\, it is time to recognize and expand women’s leadership within the Church. Sr. Laura will share the vital role women are playing in advocating for social justice\, indigenous rights\, and integral ecology\, and together with Discerning Deacons\, update us on the global Catholic Church’s Synod on Synodality’s October 2024 gathering in Rome.\n\nAmazonian Catholic University for Intercultural Education\nMauricio Lopez will present the vision for a new Pan-Amazonian Catholic University Network (PUAM) that will focus on intercultural education\, interdisciplinary research\, and dialogue. This initiative aims to address the urgent inequalities and challenges of the region while amplifying indigenous knowledge.\n  \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:A Voice from the Border: The Pastoral Presence of Bishop Mark Seitz
DESCRIPTION:On October 24\, 2024\, Pax Christi International\, with the support of the Pax Christi Fund for Peace\, hosted the webinar “A Voice from the Border: The Pastoral Presence of Bishop Mark J. Seitz.” \nIn this emotional and deeply moving conversation\, Bishop Mark Seitz shared his firsthand experiences working with immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. Moderated by Marie Dennis of our Catholic Nonviolence Initiative\, this webinar offered a unique and compassionate perspective on immigration. \nBishop Seitz concluded with a poignant reflection that continues to resonate with us: \n“Advocacy will only have an impact if we change the minds and hearts of citizens in this country. We have to do the hard work of reaching the grassroots and helping people understand—a kind of understanding that can only come from encounter. I hope and pray that people will take the opportunity\, wherever they live\, to reach out\, ask questions\, and listen to the stories of immigrants. These stories may very well change your life\, allowing you to see a reality through their eyes that you were unable to see before.” \n\n\n  \nThis event is part of a series organized by the Pax Christi Fund for Peace.
