Pax Christi International, together with other human rights and civil society organisations, condemns the European Union’s failure to uphold its own human rights commitments in its engagement with Israel. Despite the EU-Israel Association Council’s meeting on February 24th, where the EU reiterated its calls for Israel to respect international humanitarian and human rights law, Israel has escalated its violations with impunity.
In the days following the meeting, Israel enforced a complete blockade of humanitarian aid into Gaza, using starvation as a weapon, a war crime under international law. At the same time, attacks in the West Bank have intensified, with military operations, forced displacement, and settlement expansion continuing unchecked. These actions highlight Israel’s disregard for international legal norms and, critically, the EU’s failure to take meaningful action in response.
We call on the EU to take immediate action to ensure accountability, including the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, in line with its legal and moral obligations.
