20 November: World Day of Prayer and Action for Children

The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children celebrated today, on Universal Children’s Day, brings together secular and faith-based organisations to work collaboratively to end violence against children.

Initiated by the global non-governmental organization, Arigatou International, whose Director, Dr. Mustafa Y. Ali is a member of the Pax Christi International Board, the World Day has promoted prayer and action for the well-being of children on Universal Children’s Day since 2008.

World Day activities take many forms, including mobilization and media campaigns, workshops, religious services and vigils, and common action to protect children from violence. This year highlights three proven child protection strategies:

  1. protecting children through universal birth registration
  2. promoting positive parenting and non-violent child rearing
  3. ending child marriage
