2017 End-of-the-Year Appeal: Please support Pax Christi International's work for peace

“Pax Christi International has, through its years of membership in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), made an important contribution to our work, notably in its outreach to the Catholic Church and its capacity to mobilise people though its member organisations around the world. We count on Pax Christi International for further support of our campaign for the entering into force of the UN nuclear weapons ban and its implementation by member states for a world free from nuclear weapons.”

~ Beatrice Fihn, Executive Director of ICAN, 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate

Dear friends,

We are so honoured to be a participant in the work that garnered the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).

Pax Christi International helped make history this year with the negotiation of a treaty – that the UN ratified in September – to ban nuclear weapons. From treaty policies issued in February to life-saving provisions promoted at treaty talks in New York, from equipping member organisations to contact their governments at home to lobbying their country’s diplomats at the United Nations, from a hearing on treaty morality in July to participating  in the Vatican conference on a world free of nuclear weapons in November, we have been pressing church leaders, diplomats, policy makers, Vatican representatives, and civil society organizations to take the next step toward freeing the world of nuclear weapons.

Our advocacy work on nuclear disarmament, led by our UN representatives and an international working group, has one goal: creating a safer, more peaceful world for future generations. Your support enables this essential work to go forward.

As we approach the end of 2017, will you help support our work, like our advocacy for the nuclear weapons ban? (If you are in the U.S., click here to give. Everyone else can click here to give.)

“I am convinced that the desire for peace and fraternity planted deep in the human heart will bear fruit in concrete ways
to ensure that nuclear weapons are banned once and for all to the benefit of our common home.” ~ Pope Francis

It is undeniable today that we are faced with threats of nuclear warfare, this is why Pax Christi International’s worldwide collaborative efforts – including the important work with ICAN – is more essential than ever to realising the goal of a world free of nuclear weapons. For over 70 years Pax Christi International has been advocating for nuclear disarmament. It has always been a priority for us as a matter of faith and the common good.

Pax Christi International’s participation in ICAN contributed to winning the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. In 2018 we can build on that incredible success, but we’ll need your support to do so.

Will you offer your generous support to help us make that next step toward a nuclear weapon-free world in 2018? (If you are in the U.S., click here to give. Everyone else can click here to give.)

Thank you and may the new year be one of peace for all of us.

In peace,

Jonathan Frerichs
UN Representative for Disarmament, Pax Christi International
