Austria: Pax Christi Austria elects theologian as new president



12/4/19 - The ecclesiastical peace movement Pax Christi Austria has a new president. The Innsbruck social ethicist Wolfgang Palaver (60) was elected on Saturday by the General Assembly as successor to Bishop Manfred Scheuer in this capacity.

Scheuer was at the head of the organisation until June 2017, and since then this position has been vacant. The Innsbruck Bishop Hermann Glettler has been responsible for Pax Christi since November 2018 at the Austrian Bishops' Conference.

Experience in ethical-political questions

Palaver is Professor of Christian Social Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Innsbruck. From March 2013 to February 2017, he was also Dean of this Faculty.

The social ethicist from Zell am Ziller was also co-founder of "Pax Christi Tirol", member of the Austrian Commission of "Iustitia et Pax" and local council of Jenbach. Apart from ethical-political questions, he has also made a name for himself in interreligious dialogue...
