Belgium: Pax Christi Flanders is co-organising special event on nonviolence for Peace Day

1/2/2018 - Pax Christi Flanders is a co-organiser of the upcoming Peace Day event, "Resist despair. The transformative power of active nonviolence", taking place on 28 February 2018.

Our world balances between hope and despair. Can active nonviolence strengthen the chances of peace, justice and wholeness of creation? For the first time in history, the Catholic Church, through the promotion of Pope Francis, has made an explicit plea for the power of active nonviolence. To this end, he inspires us with the way that Jesus of Nazareth embodies. Pope Francis wants to take the message of nonviolence further and is reaching out to committed Christians all over the world.

On Wednesday 28 February 2018, the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, the Center for Peace Ethics and Pax Christi Flanders will offer this opportunity in the Promotiezaal, Naamsestraat in Leuven from 9 am to 5 pm. Jacques Haers, Johan De Tavernier, Geert Van Oyen, Julianne Funk and Roger Burggraeve will speak. Marie Dennis, co-chair of Pax International and Annemarie Gielen, general director of Pax Christi Flanders will close the day. The day will be introduced by Didier Pollefeyt and concluded by Annemie Dillen. Participation is free.
