Democratic Republic of Congo: Pax Christi Butembo to raise the awareness of young people on active nonviolence
29/11/18 - During these last years dominated by a climate of wars and several repetitive troubles caused by the militias, the rebel forces, the regular army and other armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo in general, and more particularly in the East and especially in the cities of Beni and Butembo and territory of Lubero and Beni, several social strata and especially the youth are abandoned to their sad fate.
Since this situation is not beneficial for the future not only of youth, but also of the people of the whole Democratic Republic of Congo, Pax Christ Butembo in partnership with Pax Christi International as part of the program "Empowering New Generations on Active Nonviolence and Entrepreneurship", aims to awaken and raise the awareness of young people as well as recall their role in consolidating lasting peace in the framework of the promotion and the construction of active nonviolence in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the current context, many conflicts of various origins (ethnic, administrative, customary, political, etc) through the aforementioned area, lead to suffering with several consequences (murder, theft, rape, looting, etc.) and massive displacement of millions of people, often in deplorable circumstances.
Pax Christi Butembo believes that the strengthening and consolidation of youth in the framework of promoting active nonviolence can aspire to a positive social future where the rate of violence will significantly decrease. In this belief, Pax Christi Butembo, thus, stresses the importance of youth in the Congolese society, and the fact that young people must play a very important role in the fight against violence.
