France: Pax Christi France, Strasbourg issue statement on last week's violence

17/12/18 - Last week, our member organisation, Pax Christi France, and their regional group, Pax Christi Strasbourg, issued the following statement on the violence that struck Strasbourg last week.

Blind violence has struck the heart of Strasburg, throwing into mourning and despair so many innocent people whose only mistake was to cross the path of a man inhabited by murderous madness. This brutal aggression, which nothing excuses, comes in a time when our city celebrates Christmas and the Christians eagerly await the birth of the ‘Prince of Peace’.

This inhuman act does not deter us, men and women of good will, with fraternity towards our fellow citizens whatever their beliefs. On the contrary, it incites us all the more in the pursuit of justice, which is the sister of peace. There is no other way than this to live together.

Pax Christi bows to the victims, expresses our solidarity and grief to their families and sympathy during this time of adversity. We repeat our hope that the coming of Christ, naked in a simple stable, the love of the God who makes himself one of us, will help us to build the paths of concord and fraternity.
