Guatemala: Descent of homicidal violence reaches 3.5%, reported by the Mutual Support Group

During the nine months that Jimmy Morales has been president of Guatemala, the big issue has been the fight against corruption and violence. Our member organisation Mutual Support Group (Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo, or GAM) recently published a monitoring report of homicidal violence in Guatemala (Jan. – Sept. 2016). The report outlines trends in violence as well as recommendations from the Mutual Support Group aimed at combating insecurity and reducing the roots of violence. In the recommendation section, the report stresses that "combating insecurity must be the task of everyone, not just the state, and that it is important to involve all sectors of society, including ordinary citizens, businesses, social organisations, sports, cultural associations and others.
