Kenya: Chemchemi Ya Ukweli implements project to counter violent extremism

Pax Christi International Member Organisation Chemchemi Ya Ukweli (CYU), with Isiolo Interfaith and Canada Fund (CFLI), implemented a 5 month project in Isiolo County. Street Theatre performances were used to offer a safe and non-threatening opportunity to discuss difficult theological issues as a major strategic approach. The project engaged communities through dialogue fora that are theatre-driven to hold and sustain dialogue between the police and youth, interreligious communities and citizens. The main purpose of this project was to enhance inclusive citizens’ participation in countering violent extremism by facilitating dialogues among youth, county government and national government representatives including the National Police Services, village elders, and religious leaders in Isiolo County.
