Pakistan: National Commission for Justice and Peace issues press release on human right violations in disputed regions

The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP), a rights-based organization of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, strongly condemns the human rights violations in the Indian-occupied Kashmir valley. The extrajudicial killing of separatist movement members and the tragic attack on peaceful protesters/civilians has resulted in 30 deaths with 100 injured and is a clear violation of international obligations.

His Excellency Bishop Dr. Joseph Arshad, Chairman of the Commission and Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf Mani, National Director said in a joint statement that killing innocent people and denying their human rights and freedom is unacceptable. They said, "The Kashmir people should not be denied their fundamental rights, such as rights of life, rights to justice, freedom of expression or peaceful protest and assembly." They also pleaded to the government of India and Pakistan that they should stand together to promote regional peace and to resolve the Kashmir issues as per the desires of the people of Kashmir.

Asking from Almighty God the gift of peace, they also prayed for the families of the dead and injured, imploring God to give them strength to overcome this irreparable loss of their loved ones, and offered wishes for a speedy recovery of those injured.
