Pax Christi message of solidarity with the victims in Peshawar, Pakistan

24 September 2013

Pax Christi, the International Catholic peace movement, expresses its awfulness and sorrow over the immoral violence that took a toll of 81 Christians including 37 women. We are shocked to learn 140 others have been seriously injured in the reprehensible attack on the All Saints Day Church in Peshawar, on 22 September 2013. We strongly and unequivocally condemn this terrorist attack. At this moment of sorrow and grief, we stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters and people of good will not only in Peshawar but in entire Pakistan. Let us pray that those responsible are brought to justice.

Together with you, Pax Christi International is deeply concerned because attacks to Christian minorities in their places of worship and to their properties have been recurring over the past few years. Those attacks have left many Christians in Pakistan panic-stricken, chronically insecure and vulnerable. All the citizens in the country deserve protection, especially the minorities.

May all those who have died rest in the peace of our Lord.  May the God of peace and mercy be with the victims and their families.

In solidarity and peace,

José Henríquez

Secretary General
