South Korea: Pax Christi Korea holds inaugural Mass and assembly

28/8/19 - The following is an email from Anselmo Lee of Pax Christi Korea about the inaugural assembly and Mass for the start of their section.

With great happiness and gratitude, first I would like to share with you some photos (see link below) of the inaugural assembly and mass held Saturday on 24 August 2019.

As of then, 306 people have registered as members and the majority is lay people (278, about 90%) and 1 bishop, 19 priests, 7 sisters and 4 brothers. More than 100 members were presented at the Assembly.

During the assembly, 4 co-representatives were elected - two lay persons, one sister and one priest, including me. Our mandate will be til Feb. 2020 when an annual general assembly is to take place to elect new leadership with 2 full year mandate.

Your congratulatory messages were translated into Korean for the program book and introduced to all participants... Once again thanks a lot for your support and soldiarity.

We will translate key documents such as the statues, inaugural declaration, board members, action plans, etc. into English and share soon.

Once again thank you, especially Greet Vanaerschot and Jonathan Frerichs who have guided us for the last several months to prepare for this inaugural assembly.  John's presence in February in Korea was very important to motivate key PCK leaders to take concrete steps.

We look forward to welcoming Jasmin Nario-Galace of Pax Christi Asia-Pacific in October 14-16 in Busan and Greet Vanaerschot, Secretary General of Pax Christi International, in early December in Seoul!
