Sri Lanka: Human Rights Office Kandy to honour human rights defenders on 10 December


Our member organisation in Sri Lanka, the Human Rights Office-Kandy, will be celebrating a "Human Rights Salutation 2017" on 10 December 2017. The event recognises the work of human rights defenders in protecting and promoting human rights. Chief guests include Rt. Rev. Dr. Winston Fernando, SSS, the president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka; and Hon. Eran Wickramaratne, State Minister of Finance in Sri Lanka. Award winners include:

  • Mr. Chamila Bandara, for his work against torture and on behalf of torture survivors
  • Rev. Sr. Nichola Emmanuel, for her commitment to families of the disappeared and prisoners
  • Ms. Ermiza Tegal, for her work on behal of torture survivors and her campaign for the rights of minorities and children
