On 26 September, on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, the online event “Towards a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World” took place, organised by Nuclear Abolition Day featuring four international sessions.
Session 3, taking place at 14:00 CET, focused on concrete action to prevent nuclear war and achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world, with a focus on global campaigns to reduce nuclear risks, end the nuclear arms race and advance disarmament. Giulia Bordin, Advocacy Officer at Pax Christi International, was also among the moderators.
Ahead of Nuclear Abolition Day, Giulia Bordin also contributed as a co-author to the in-depth article “Nuclear Threats and Our Common Humanity: From Deterrence to Common Security”.
The article connects the nuclear issue to a broader question: how to rethink the very concept of security, moving from the logic of deterrence towards “Common Security”, an approach based on cooperation and shared protection, rather than mutual threat.
