“In this moment of global uncertainty, we refuse despair. Inspired by the Jubilee Year of Hope, we choose Hope not as sentiment, but as a discipline rooted in faith and lived in solidarity.”

In the wake of the World Gathering held in Florence from 5–9 November to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Movement’s foundation, Pax Christi International has released its official commitment, which will serve as a guiding framework for the organisation’s future and for all supporters of its global network around the world.

In a world once again wounded by the outbreak of numerous conflicts and by the resulting feelings of fear and despair, today, as eighty years ago, our call to Hope seeks to chart a new path grounded in a universal logic of Just Peace, a peace “never imposed from above”, but one that grows “from the resilience, creativity, and courage of those whose lives are most deeply marked by injustice”.

The gathering in Florence offered us a contemporary vision of our network, in which young people are called to claim an increasingly central place as future leaders of the world to come. Through the relationships nurtured within Pax Christi International, the citizens of tomorrow will be able to share a universal message rooted in Active Nonviolence, which is today more than ever a vital driving force for a new era of peace.

Drawing on the 2025 Jubilee guidelines, we too seek to become pilgrims of Hope, sharing a common journey “with other Christian communities, with people of all faiths, with non-believers, and with all those who work for a world in which every person can live in dignity and peace”.
