About us

About us

The Catholic Nonviolence Initiative (CNI), a program of Pax Christi International, is a global movement dedicated to promoting active nonviolence as a core principle of the Gospel. We believe that nonviolence is central to the teachings of Jesus and vital to the mission of the Catholic Church. By fostering a culture of peace, justice, and reconciliation, we strive to heal and transform both human relationships and our planet. Guided by Pope Francis’ vision and supported by a network of over 100 organizations worldwide, CNI works to integrate nonviolence into all aspects of Church life and to empower Catholics everywhere to embrace this path of love and truth.

Why Nonviolence Now

Why Nonviolence Now

What would it look like
if nonviolence shaped
every part of Church life?

Can nonviolence become
a defining framework for
Catholic thought and practice?

How are you being
called to practice
nonviolence today?

From grassroots organizing to global advocacy, CNI works to integrate active nonviolence into theology, pastoral practice, education, and public witness. Our initiatives support communities responding to conflict with courage, creativity, and faith-rooted action.

The Catholic Institute for Nonviolence is a hub for research, formation, and collaboration — bringing together theologians, practitioners, and church leaders to deepen and advance a robust Catholic understanding of Gospel nonviolence.

Nonviolence begins with personal conversion and grows through community. Join a global network of Catholics committed to prayer, learning, action, and solidarity—each responding to violence with the transforming power of love.
