The International Forum for Peace 2025, of which Pax Christi International is a member, has issued a statement on Israel’s forced interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla. You can read the full statement below.

In violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), International Humanitarian Law, and the Geneva Convention, Article 54 and Additional Protocol I, the government of the criminal Netanyahu ordered the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the detention of its crew in waters where it has no jurisdiction. 

The flotilla’s humanitarian mission aimed to break the blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza and deliver food and essential goods for the survival of the civilian population, subjected to a policy of extermination—a planned genocide. 

Since 2007, Israel has maintained a land, air, and naval blockade that illegally seeks to deprive the people of Gaza of food, medicine, and essential goods, violating Article 33 of the Geneva Convention. 

The interception of the flotilla represents yet another act of aggression by Netanyahu’s government, adding to the genocide case already open at the International Criminal Court and to his arrest warrant. 

Once again, civil society—with hundreds of demonstrations across the world—has shown itself ahead of governments and institutions in demanding an end to the policy of extermination against the Palestinian people. 

From the International Forum for Peace, we join these popular mobilizations and demand the immediate release of those who have been illegally detained, as well as the right for the humanitarian mission to continue for the ships that have so far managed to evade Israeli aggression. We also support governments, such as Colombia’s, that are taking effective measures to denounce this new aggression.

En violation de la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer (CNUDM), du droit international humanitaire et de la Convention de Genève, de l’article 54 et du Protocole additionnel I, le gouvernement du criminel Netanyahu a ordonné l’interception de la flottille mondiale du Soumoud et la détention de son équipage dans des eaux où il n’a aucune juridiction. 

La mission humanitaire de la flottille visait à briser le blocus imposé par Israël à Gaza et à livrer de la nourriture et des biens essentiels à la survie de la population civile, soumise à une politique d’extermination – un génocide planifié. 

Depuis 2007, Israël a maintenu un blocus terrestre, aérien et naval qui cherche illégalement à priver la population de Gaza de nourriture, de médicaments et de biens essentiels, en violation de l’article 33 de la Convention de Genève. 

L’interception de la flottille représente un nouvel acte d’agression de la part du gouvernement de Netanyahu, qui s’ajoute à l’affaire de génocide déjà ouverte à la Cour pénale internationale et à son mandat d’arrêt. 

Une fois de plus, la société civile – avec des centaines de manifestations à travers le monde – s’est montrée en avance sur les gouvernements et les institutions en exigeant la fin de la politique d’extermination contre le peuple palestinien. 

Depuis le Forum international pour la paix, nous nous joignons à ces mobilisations populaires et exigeons la libération immédiate de ceux qui ont été détenus illégalement, ainsi que le droit à la poursuite de la mission humanitaire pour les navires qui ont jusqu’à présent réussi à échapper à l’agression israélienne. Nous soutenons également les gouvernements, comme celui de la Colombie, qui prennent des mesures efficaces pour dénoncer cette nouvelle agression.

Contraviniendo el Convenio de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Derecho del Mar (UNCLOS), el Derecho Internacional Humanitario y la Convención de Ginebra, art.54 y Protocolo I adicional, el gobierno del criminal Netanyahu ordenó la interceptación de la Flotilla Global Sumud y la detención de sus tripulantes sobre aguas que no tiene jurisdicción.

La acción humanitaria de la flotilla pretendía romper el bloqueo que mantiene Israel sobre Gaza para enviar alimentos y productos esenciales para la supervivencia de la población civil sometida a una política de exterminio, a un genocidio planificado.

Desde 2007, Israel mantiene un bloqueo terrestre, aéreo y naval que, de forma ilegal, pretende privar de alimentos, medicinas y bienes esenciales a la población gazatí, vulnerando el artículo 33 de la Convención de Ginebra.

La interceptación de la Flotilla supone una agresión más del gobierno Netanyahu que añadir a la causa abierta por genocidio en la Corte Penal Internacional y a su orden de arresto.

Una vez más, la sociedad civil con centenares de manifestaciones en todo el mundo ha demostrado ir por delante de los gobiernos e instituciones en la exigencia de poner fin a la política de exterminio sobre el pueblo palestino.

Desde el Foro Internacional por la Paz nos sumamos a estas movilizaciones populares y exigimos la inmediata liberación de quienes han sido detenidos de manera ilegal y que se deje terminar su misión humanitaria a los barcos que han sorteado por el momento la agresión israelí, así como apoyamos a los gobiernos que como el de Colombia tomen medidas efectivas de denuncia contra esta nueva agresión
