In a joint statement published on 17 January, the Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches of Jerusalem reaffirmed that they alone officially represent the Apostolic Churches and provide guidance for God’s people on Earth, distancing themselves from the actions of individuals promoting harmful ideologies that serve only to create confusion.

The religious leaders call on the faithful to remain united, as “one body in Christ and members one of another.”

Pax Christi International stands in prayerful solidarity with the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem and with all Christian communities of the Holy Land. Rooted in the Gospel commitment to active nonviolence, Pax Christi International rejects the misuse of religion to legitimise domination, exclusion or harm. We affirm the rightful pastoral authority of the historic Churches and support their vocation to be instruments of peace, justice, and reconciliation. In a context marked by violence and injustice, we uphold nonviolence as both a spiritual discipline and a public witness, trusting that God’s peace will sustain the Christian presence and strengthen the Churches’ mission of hope in this sacred land.
