The Lord gives strength to His people
The Lord blesses His people with Peace (Psalm 29:11)
As the world commemorates the 80th anniversary of the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we, the members of Pax Christi International, express our solidarity with the Hibakusha survivors who have suffered the impacts of these catastrophic events.
We are committed to promoting restorative justice and reconciliation, for a world free of nuclear weapons. Equally, we endorse the Pax Jubilee 2025 Declaration: For a Peaceful Asia-Pacific Region without Nuclear Weapons. As a Peace movement, we continue to call for the respect of all people’s dignity, right and protection of human life and all God’s Creation. It is in view of this, that we call on abolition of all Nuclear weapons which are unacceptable and immoral. History and today’s realities has proved that the use of nuclear weapons leads to loss of lives, pain and untold suffering adversely affecting todays and future generations and all God’s creation. We equally are cognizant of the global scale of threats posed by these weapons.
Most importantly, at a time when nuclear threats have reemerged in global discourse and budgets for security undermine those budgets for basic rights, especially, health and education, we advocate for a world security built on trust and fair diplomacy and more urgently, for Just Peace for Humanity and the Creation. Together, let us pray for wisdom and courage to continue our journey as peacebuilders. Indeed, “the Lord surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore” (Psalm;125:2)
