Today, March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, an occasion to recognize the contribution of women to building more just societies and, at the same time, to reflect on the challenges that still persist in terms of equality and rights, while renewing our collective commitment to a future of dignity and justice for all.
The history of Pax Christi International has been profoundly shaped by the commitment of women from all over the world to the cause of nonviolence. Beginning with Marthe Dortel-Claudot, co-founder of the Movement in the aftermath of the Second World War, many women have contributed decisively to shaping the path of the organization. With courage and perseverance, they have promoted processes of dialogue and reconciliation, carrying forward an unwavering commitment to peace.
Today, therefore, we want to celebrate some of the women who, from every part of the world, continue to offer an tireless contribution to the work of Pax Christi International by sharing their commitment and experiences. To each of them goes our deep gratitude for witnessing through their lives the concrete practice of peacebuilding.
