Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent, the final moment of waiting before the joy of Christ’s coming into the world enlightens our hearts. Throughout this journey towards the holy season of Christmas, we have sought each Sunday to make this spirit of prayer and hope our own, by entering into the realities of those who, year after year, are unable to experience the same joy because of war, natural disasters and hardship.

From this perspective, we cannot turn our gaze away from what is happening in Haiti, a country marked by a structural crisis that affects above all the poorest and most vulnerable. Widespread violence, political instability, and the failure of the transition process continue to generate suffering, fear, and forced migration. The voices of local communities, peace organisations, and the Haitian Church strongly call us to responsibility, solidarity, and concrete commitment to justice.

On this final Sunday before the light of Christmas, let us allow ourselves to be challenged by the suffering of the Haitian people through the words of Martha Inés Romero, Secretary General of Pax Christi International. May this prayer renew our commitment to a peace rooted in structural change, respect for human dignity, and the fulfilment of fundamental rights.
