The Christian-Muslim dialogue panel at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago was a success.
In a compelling panel discussion, distinguished participants engaged in a transformative dialogue, delving into topics including the pressing climate crisis. The esteemed speakers included:
- Rev. Chloe Breyer from the Interfaith Center of New York
- Rev. Elias Mallon, Franciscan Friar and UN NGO rep for Catholic Near East Welfare Association
- Dr. Mahjabeen Dhala, Professor of Islamic Studies and Feminist studies at Berkeley
- Imam Sayyid Kashmiri, the representative in North America of Grand Ayatollah Al Sistani
Mary Yelenick, the Pax Christi International UN NGO Rep, moderated the panel.
Fruitful conversations and thoughtful gestures
Building upon an earlier meeting in New York, Imam Kashmiri’s gentle demeanour and thoughtful insights resonated with the group. This could be the start of an inspiring, continued collaboration. A notable highlight of the session was Imam Kashmiri’s thoughtful gesture of gifting each panel member two books, including one of his own authorship, and a framed photograph capturing the historic meeting between Pope Francis and Grand Ayatollah Al-Sistani. This image, previously unseen by many, stirred curiosity and sparked engaging conversations.
In reciprocity, Mary Yelenick presented Imam Kashmiri with a copy of the Pax Christi International book on Catholic nonviolence. This exchange exemplified the powerful potential for unity and understanding in shared values, fostering hope for a harmonious and sustainable future.
