On 19 May 2026, from 08:30 am to 09:45 am (EDT), a panel of experts will take place in New York (in a hybrid format), featuring first-hand testimonies from local and international actors engaged in the protection of civilians in the Palestinian territories.
According to UNRWA, the UN Human Rights Office and UNICEF, Gaza is currently the most dangerous place in the world for journalists and humanitarian workers, while in the West Bank there has been an increase in human rights violations.
The event, co-hosted by the Working Group on Israel-Palestine, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), Pax Christi USA and Unarmed Civilian Protection in Palestine (UCPiP), will be an opportunity to reflect on how to strengthen the protection of communities and the role of local actors, with the aim of promoting a shift in approach that reinforces local capacities.
