International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
A message from Pax Christi International
Friday, November 29th, 2024
On this International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Pax Christi International reflects deeply on the words of Laudate Deum (28): “We need to rethink among other things the question of human power, its meaning and its limits.”
In the context of Palestine, power has too often been wielded as a force of domination, threat, and fear, casting shadows over lives already burdened by decades of injustice and suffering. Yet, the human spirit continues to find ways to defy such misuse of power. Amgad’s lived experience during this harrowing period of terror in Gaza, which we share here today, exemplifies the essence of nonviolent resistance: a profound rejection of cycles of harm, whether against the Earth, our shared home, or against one another.
His unwavering commitment to resist without hatred, to stand in solidarity without succumbing to despair, inspires us all. His courage in nurturing hope amid devastation offers a path not merely for survival but for transformation. Amgad and his family are but one example among many of the Palestinian Sumud.
As we express our solidarity with them, we renew our call for an immediate ceasefire and for meaningful, structural dialogue: a dialogue grounded in justice, equity, and the inherent dignity of all people. Peace cannot be imposed through dominance or sustained by fear, it must grow through mutual understanding and respect for the human and ecological fabric of life.
Together, we remain steadfast in our vision of a world where peace is not merely a fragile truce, but the cornerstone of human flourishing.
