On May 17th and 18th, Giulia Bordin, PCI Advocacy officer, and Dieudonné Serukabuza,  PCI Africa Regional Coordinator, took part in the audience of the International Peoples Tribunal 2024, together with many other organisations, including the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines and Netherlands-Filipino Solidarity Movement.

The International Peoples Tribunal (IPT) 2024 found Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Rodrigo Duterte, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP), and the United States government guilty of war crimes and violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) against the Filipino people. The verdict, delivered on 18 May 2024 in Brussels, cited evidence of abductions, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, civilian massacres, and other severe abuses by the GRP forces.

Emphasising the sanctity of human rights and human dignity, Pax Christi International demands an immediate cessation of the ongoing violent practices in the Philippines. We call upon the Filipino government to fully respect human rights and to protect the dignity of all its citizens. Additionally, we advocate for the prompt resumption of peace talks, recognising that principled negotiations are the most effective means to address the root causes of the conflict and to achieve sustainable peace.

Pax Christi International stands firmly in solidarity with the Filipino people during these challenging times. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for nonviolence and peace throughout the region. It is our belief that peace, not disorder, is central to God’s vision for humanity. Therefore, we will continue to support all efforts aimed at fostering a just and peaceful society in the Philippines.
