In 1997, the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó was created with the aim of being respected and being able to remain in their lands, in the midst of a conflict they did not want to be part of. Unfortunately, the COP has a sad history of years of peaceful resistance in which it has had to mourn the loss of more than 300 lives of its members.
At the beginning of March 2024, the violence intensified, posing a serious threat over the existence of the community.
Today, Pax Christi International, together with other international organisations, including Oidhaco, strongly condemns and rejects the acts of violence against the Comunidad de Paz San José de Apartadó.
