On 11 February, Anthony Donovan (now a member of the PCI UN team in New York), Timmon Wallis (long-time anti-nuclear activist and author), Mitchie Takeuchi (born in Hiroshima and now based in New York, producer of the film on Hibakusha Setsuko Thurlow), and Mary Yelenick (Pax Christi International’s Main Representative at the United Nations in New York) met with the Holy See Mission to the United Nations in preparation for this year’s nuclear abolition events, including the NPT and TPNW conferences.
The meeting provided an opportunity to thank the Mission for its long-standing and strong support for nuclear abolition and to share information about the initiatives planned for 2026 in which Pax Christi International will take part to advance the elimination of nuclear weapons.
The team had the opportunity to meet with Monsignor Roger Murphy and Holy See Mission Attaché Benedetta Viviano, who is responsible for nuclear abolition issues.
The meeting brought together long-time supporters of nuclear disarmament, each expressing gratitude to the Holy See for its firm condemnation, articulated as early as 2017 by Pope Francis, not only of the use, but also of the possession, of nuclear weapons.
