Nonviolence and the right to self-defence: a challenge for the Synod.

Nicolás Paz, Catholic Nonviolence Initiative Programme Officer reflects on nonviolence and legitimate self-defence as one of the challenges of Synod on synodality.

“The current conflicts between Ukraine and Russia or between Israel and Palestine increase the need for a new framework and new tools to work with if we do not want to boycott our own possibilities for peace”.

“Only within a nonviolent notion of self-defence can we speak of a right in the strict sense”.
