Pax Christi Korea (PCK) co-hosted the Pax Catholica Forum in Assisi, held from June 9–11, 2025, as part of the Jubilee Pilgrimage of Hope.
Anselmo Lee of Pax Christi Korea, along with Martha Inés Romero and Giulia Bordin from Pax Christi International, joined the Pax Catholica Forum in Assisi, participating both in person and virtually. The Forum was organised by the Assisi Catholic Peace Forum and brought together a wide network of Catholic youth and peace movements.
The gathering marked several significant anniversaries: 80 years since the end of the Second World War and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the founding of the United Nations in 1945, the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, and the 800th anniversary of The Canticle of the Creatures by St Francis of Assisi.
Coordinated by Pax Romana (IMCS and ICMICA), in collaboration with Pax Christi International, Pax Christi Korea, IYCS, and the IYTC–Pax Romana Laudato Si’ Center, the Forum aimed to foster dialogue and cooperation among Catholic groups committed to justice, peace, and care for creation.
The discussions were rooted in Catholic social teaching, with particular focus on Laudato Si’, Fratelli Tutti, and Christus Vivit. The Forum also supported the launch of the Pax Jubilee Campaign (PaJu) 2027, a global, youth-led initiative to mobilise one million signatures and concrete action for peace, justice, and ecological sustainability.
Pax Christi’s engagement contributed to shared reflection and planning in response to today’s pressing global challenges, aligned with the 2025 Jubilee Year theme, “Pilgrims of Hope”.
The resulting Assisi Appeal for Peace highlighted both the challenges and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the pursuit of peace, reflecting the message of Pope Leo XIV on the Church’s role in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Participants from the Pax Romana and Pax Christi movements, along with members of IYCS and FIMCAP, engaged in collective discernment of current geopolitical realities—especially in the context of what Pope Francis has described as a “third world war fought piecemeal.” As a result, they adopted the Assisi Action Agenda for Peace, focusing on four key areas:
A. Nuclear Disarmament and Demilitarization
B. Catholic Youth-Led Campaigns and Synodal Engagement
C. Public Diplomacy and Advocacy
D. Peace Technology and Ethical Artificial Intelligence
Key actions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) include opposing autonomous weapons and militarized AI systems, endorsing and advancing the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, and advocating for binding ethical AI norms rooted in human dignity.
