Pax Christi International, together with other national, European and international organisations, stand in solidarity with the communities of southern Bolívar, Colombia, facing ongoing violence and intimidation from criminal armed groups.
The recent tragic murder of Narciso Beleño, a respected community leader, underscores the urgent need for action to protect human rights and ensure justice.
As civil society organisations and international partners, we strongly condemn this act of violence and call for swift and thorough investigation by the judicial system. The people of southern Bolívar deserve to live in peace and security, free from the grip of criminal organisations.
We echo the calls for effective protection measures and structural solutions to address the root causes of violence in southern Bolívar. It is imperative that social leaders are safeguarded and empowered to defend human rights without fear of reprisal.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Narciso’s family, friends, and the communities he served tirelessly.
