From September 1 to October 4, Catholics and Christians around the world come together to celebrate the Season of Creation. This year’s theme is “Hope and act with Creation”, and the symbol guiding our reflection is “The firstfruits of hope,” inspired by Romans 8:19-25.
On June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day, the Season of Creation 2024 Celebration Guide was officially launched, with ecumenical religious leaders from around the globe joining the event.
Pax Christi International and its Catholic Nonviolence Initiative embrace Gospel Nonviolence as a way to hope and act with Creation. Recognising that violence in all its forms threatens the very survival of our planet and all creatures, Pax Christi is committed to nonviolence as the path forward to protect vulnerable people and the Earth, our common home.

During the Season of Creation, Pax Christi International and its Catholic Nonviolence Initiative will have their annual Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action. From 21 September (International Day of Peace) until 2 October (International Day of Nonviolence and Gandhi’s birthday), people worldwide are encouraged to come together in solidarity to promote and celebrate nonviolence. This year’s theme is Walking Together Builds Unity and Nonviolence, focusing on those “who walk together in integrity will find their security in God” (cf. Proverbs 28:18).
On June 27, Pope Francis released his message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation 2024, which calls on us all to unite and continue our journey of faith and action.
This year, during the Season of Creation, Christians worldwide will also focus on raising awareness about the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT). This initiative seeks to catalyze the phase-out of fossil fuels while ensuring a just global transition for workers, communities, and countries. Pax Christi International has endorsed this crucial campaign.
Let’s come together to hope, act, and care for our common home through the power of active nonviolence!
