Pax Christi England and Wales

Martha Inés Romero with the Pax Christi England and Wales staff

At the end of February, Pax Christi England and Wales had the honour of welcoming Martha Inés Romero, Pax Christi International’s Secretary General, for a visit. During her stay, she engaged with staff, leadership, and partners, including CAFOD, and participated in a live interview on Radio Maria England.

A key moment of the visit was a gathering at the FCJ Spirituality Centre in Euston, where she shared insights from her lifelong work for peace and justice, as well as the priorities of Pax Christi International in its 80th anniversary year.  You can read a report on the event in Independent Catholic News and watch the recording here.

Pax Christi Scotland

From March 3 to 11, Martha Inés Romero joined Pax Christi Scotland for a series of events focused on peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue.

She attended an interreligious symposium alongside Bishop Brian McGee and other faith leaders, where discussions centered on fostering nonviolence through dialogue. She also participated in an Ash Wednesday Vigil at Faslane nuclear submarine base, emphasizing the need for collective action toward nuclear disarmament.

During her visit to SCIAF, she explored opportunities for collaboration on climate advocacy ahead of COP 30. Martha Inés Romero also addressed the Scottish Parliament thanks to the kind invitation by Richard Leonard MSP, leading the ‘Time for Reflection’ and later meeting with policymakers at a Parliamentary Reception. You can watch her intervention here.

The visit concluded with a residential gathering in Coatbridge, where Martha Inés Romero engaged in in-depth discussions on peacebuilding and shared her experiences working in conflict-affected areas, particularly in Colombia.
