Pax Christi International stands in unwavering solidarity with our partners, friends, and colleagues in Lebanon and the region during this critical time. We are profoundly appalled by Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon, the devastating destruction in Gaza, and the wider conflict now spreading across multiple fronts – including the occupied Palestinian territories, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen – which only exacerbate the cycle of suffering and hostility.
We categorically condemn all violations of international law and international humanitarian law. True peace cannot be built on violence and destruction, and the international community must not remain indifferent. It has both the political power and moral obligation to intervene, including ending arms supplies to Israel, and to advocate for an immediate, comprehensive, and lasting ceasefire in the region. Such decisive action is essential to prevent yet another horrific chapter of death and devastation.
Achieving lasting peace requires addressing the root causes of this conflict, which must be recognised and tackled rather than overlooked or misrepresented. In light of this, we urgently urge the UN Security Council to fulfil its responsibility to safeguard human life and implement an immediate, unconditional ceasefire.
Now is the time for decisive action: for peace, for justice, and for the countless innocent lives at risk.
