Pax Christi International expresses profound concern over the escalating violence in Sudan, particularly in Gezira state and around El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. The violence has resulted in thousands being displaced and severe civilian casualties, disproportionately affecting women and children.

The situation demands urgent international action to address both immediate humanitarian needs and the root causes of the conflict.

Pax Christi International asks to the International Community and the actors involved in the conflict to:

  • Protect civilians and provide safe passage for those fleeing conflict zones. Deliver humanitarian aid to those in urgent need.
  • Implement an inclusive peace process that engages civil society, emphasizing women’s roles in peacebuilding. Call for an immediate ceasefire by RSF and SAF, with adherence to international humanitarian law.
  • Safeguard Emergency Response Rooms and volunteers offering critical assistance. The UN Security Council and African Union must lead efforts to prevent further atrocities and protect civilians.
  • Enforce the UN arms embargo on Darfur and halt all arms transfers to warring factions. Urge international allies to stop violations of the arms embargo and renew commitment to peace and justice for the Sudanese people.
