As we mark the tenth anniversary of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical on the care for our common home, Pax Christi International reaffirms the deep connection between ecological justice and active nonviolence.

Our Secretary General, Martha Inés Romero, reflects on this vital relationship in her latest article published by Exaudi News: A Decade of Laudato Si’: Why Nonviolence is Key to Ecological Justice

In the piece, Martha Inés explores how nonviolence is not only an ethical stance but a powerful tool for resisting ecological destruction, advocating for the rights of vulnerable communities, and fostering sustainable peace rooted in justice and care for creation.

This contribution builds on our longstanding commitment and prior work in this area. Marie Dennis (Director of the Catholic Institute for Nonviolence) and Ken Butigan (Senior Advisor to our Catholic Nonviolence Initiative) authored Gospel Nonviolence for a Laudato Si’ Future.

This publication, available in English, French, and Spanish, shows how each of the seven Laudato Si’ Action Platform goals can be integrated with the principles of nonviolence.
