Training of Trainers

The impact of our programme for religious sisters continues to ripple outward, now reaching Nakuru (Kenya). A Training of Trainers took place from 19 to 25 January, bringing together 15 sisters from the dioceses of Nakuru, Kericho, and Kisumu.

Held at St. Mary’s Pastoral Center, the training provided an intensive and transformative experience, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge to enrich their apostolic service and promote peace within their communities.

Led by Sr. Wamuyu Wachira, Pax Christi International’s Co-President, A. Dieudonné Serukabuza, Africa Regional Coordinator, Mr. Gekonge Divina, and Kaninie Elizabeth, the sessions covered essential aspects of nonviolence and peacebuilding.

The sisters engaged deeply with themes such as conflict prevention and management, nonviolent communication, and the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse. They explored the impact of violence on individuals and communities and learned about trauma healing, resilience, and reconciliation.

Grounded in Gospel nonviolence, the training also encouraged them to embrace transformational leadership and reflect on the challenges and responsibilities of living their religious commitment in today’s world.

The training concluded with a meaningful closing ceremony and the sisters are now returning to their communities, ready to share what they have learned. They will go into parishes, schools, and other religious congregations, where they will train youth and fellow religious sisters, fostering a culture of peace and nonviolence in their communities.

During our time in Nakuru, we also had the privilege of meeting with Bishop Cleophas Oseso of the Nakuru Diocese, presenting the project and its impact across the three dioceses. His engagement reaffirmed the importance of empowering religious sisters in this mission, ensuring that their voices and efforts continue to shape a more just and peaceful society.
