The year 2026 of Pax Christi International opens with the shared message of the two Co-Presidents, Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo and Sr Wamũyũ Teresia Wachira.

At the beginning of the new year and the new term of office, the Co-Presidents wished to reflect on the words of Pope Leo XIV, who wished all the faithful a year of peace, one that may be “disarmed and disarming”.

May the same Peace we celebrate today be the guiding light of our year, urging us towards a constant and collective commitment to building processes of Nonviolence.

On the occasion of the 2026 World Day of Peace, Pax Christi International’s Secretary General Martha Inés Romero also published a reflection based on Pope Leo’s message.

Martina reflects on how this model of the disarmed and disarming peace can be realised through dialogue and diplomacy grounded in respect for international law, integral disarmament and transformative change.

Peace, in fact, is not only a goal to be pursued, but a journey that requires evangelical coherence. This is expressed in the concluding prayer, a hymn to building a nonviolent model in a world marked by conflict.
